THE MESSENGER Newsletter of the Kossuth Club January 2010. Vol. 16. No. 1. Scholarships in 2009. The Kossuth Club distributed a total of $21,615.00 in scholarships during 2009. Of this amount $19,515.00 was sent to Hungarian schools, orphanages and youth organizations (Scouts) in the Carpathian basin (Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania and Serbia). We gave $1,700.00 local Kossuth Scholarships to students of Hungarian descent in Sarasota and $400.00 to local American cultural organizations. Compliment Received. The wonderful Steinway piano in the Selby Public Library is the property of the Sarasota Music Archive. Several times in the past, most recently in November for the Timothy Gémesi recital, we were able to use the piano free of charge to enhance our musical programs. As a token of our appreciation we donated $100.00 to this worthy local cultural organization. In the thank you note we received the following compliment: “your organization is the only one in Sarasota that we allow to have access to the piano because we regard the Kossuth Club as a very important member of Sarasota’s cultural community.” The president, Dr. Alfred J. Rosi, signed the letter. Sunday, January 17 at 7:00 PM in the Church of the Redeemer organist Bálint Karosi performs.
