THE MESSENGER Newsletter of the Kossuth Club March-April 2007. Vol. 13. No. 3-4. Scholarship Fund. Mr. and Mrs. William Graff established a $25,000.00 scholarship fund through the Kossuth Club for the Pannonhalma School run by the Benedictine order in Hungary. The Club will give the yearly income from the “Kajci and Vili Graff Kossuth Club Scholarship Fund” to students at the school. Géza, reigning prince of the Hungarian settlers, established the abbey at Pannonhalma in 996. Kossuth Club Day. The twenty-first La Musica International Chamber Music Festival will be held in Sarasota in April. Cellist Ferenc Szűcs, a graduate of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest invited members of the Kossuth Club to attend rehearsals on April 11 in the Mildred Sainer Pavilion on Bayshore Drive just south of the Ringling Museum. The ensemble will rehearse works by Rachmaninoff, Bartók and Dvorak. Doors open at 9:00 AM and rehearsals start at 9:30 AM. Afternoon rehearsals are between 2:30 and 4:30 PM. Mr. Szűcs will meet with our members at 4:30 PM. Rehearsals are free to Kossuth Club members with membership cards valid for 2007. For more information call Lily Farkas (941-359-0764). Tokai Rally. On Thursday March 29 at 4:30 PM in the Geldbart Auditorium of the Selby Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota) there will be a fund raising program for scholarships in the Ferenc Tokaji High School. Tokaj. Hungary. We will present information about the school, the geology of the area, and show a video about the wild orchids growing on Mount Tokaj, an extinct volcano. Attila Takács, a 17-year-old Junior at the school and one of last year’s scholarship recipients studied and photographed these beautiful flowers, and prepared the presentation. Hungarian Settlement in Louisiana. On Wednesday, April 25 at 4:30 PM in the Geldbart Auditorium of the Selby Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota) our guest Julianna Bika will present an illustrated lecture about Árpádhon, a Hungarian settlement in Louisiana. Church News. Ecumenical services are at 3:00 PM on the first Sunday of the month in the Church of the Cross (3005 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota). Roman Catholic masses are at 2:00 PM on the second Sunday of the month in the Church of the Incarnation (2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota). April 8, the second Sunday in April, is Easter Sunday.
