THE MESSENGER Newsletter of the Kossuth Club April-May 2006. Vol. 12. No. 4-5. 1956-2006—Half a Century. The Kossuth Club has launched “Operation Outreach— 1956,” a program to reach American citizens, especially schoolchildren, with lectures and presentation of documentary films about the Hungarian Revolution. We have secured the cooperation of the Sarasota History Club to show one of the films in their October program, and are negotiating with the respective School Boards of Sarasota and Manatee Counties to arrange lectures by our representatives. We are also seeking contacts with local organizations, such as the Sarasota Institute of Lifelong Learning (SILL), the Rotary Club, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and others. We want to reach a broad spectrum of Americans to remind them of the heroic days when the people of a small country bravely defied an empire. The Kossuth Club's 50th anniversary programs are scheduled for the week of October 23 through 29 as follows: • October 23: Oral history, reminiscences by participants and witnesses of the revolution; • October 27: Concert of Hungarian music by artists from the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest; • October 28: Gala Luncheon with keynote speaker from Hungary; • October 29: Church concert by artists from the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest. We reserve the right to change the program and to schedule additional programs, as warranted. The September issue of the newsletter will be mailed to you in late August and it will include the program details. Please remember us with your 1956 donation! Spring and Summer Schedule. Before we adjourn for the “long, hot summer,” there will be two more meetings scheduled at special times as follows: • Monday, April 24 at 4:30 PM in the Selby Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota) Dr. George Krajcsik will present an illustrated lecture about his travels in South America. This lecture will be in Hungarian. • Monday, May 22 at 4:30 PM in the Selby Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota) there will be an informal get-together. Please bring light refreshments for a merry old time! We wish you a happy easier and a pleasant summer vacation! 4
