The Hungarian American Coalition and Lauer Learning is asking participants and eyewitnesses of the 1956 Hungarian revolution to submit their “56 stories” to the Oral History web site www.Freedoml-'ighter56.com. A selection of these testimonials will be published next year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the revolution. Fr. Csaba Böjté in Sarasota. On his first North American tour, sponsored by the World Federation of Hungarians, “Brother Csaba” and his assistant Livia Szilvái visited Sarasota at the invitation of the Kossuth Club. The Sarasota rally was well attended by Hungarians on Florida's Sun Coast and raised a total of $11,300.00, including $2,300.00 for the flood victims in Transylvania and $9,000.00 for the orphanages run by Brother Csaba and the Foundation of Déva. Our distinguished visitor, who was named “Man of the Year” in 2004 in Hungary for his humanitarian work with underprivileged children, won the hearts and minds of the audience with his unaffected manner and genuine charm. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of our members and patrons the Kossuth Club has donated a total of $14,300.00 to the Foundation in 2005. Christmas Program. You are cordially invited to our Christmas program on Thursday, December 15 at 4:30 PM in the Selby Library, 1331 First Street, Sarasota. The program features Kossuth Club member Vera Heller who, as Vera Farkas was a performer on the Budapest stage before 1956. She came to Sarasota in 1986 with her late husband. Dr. George Heller. The program also includes selections from a recording of Christmas songs by csángó folk singer Ilona Nyisztor. Many of the songs are ancient Hungarian tunes performed in archaic Hungarian from Transylvania. Our guest of the afternoon is László Tanka, editor of the Hungarian world magazine Panorama. There will be pastries and refreshments after the program to celebrate the season of peace and joy. We wish all our readers a blessed Christmas And a happy New Year! 4
