THE MESSENGER Newsletter of the Kossuth Club January, 2004. Vol. 10. No. 1. Milestones. With this issue we start the tenth volume of the newsletter. In the past nine years we followed a consistent policy of bringing Hungarian culture through music and the arts to American audiences in southwest Florida, and supported Hungarian cultural and educational institutions and students in the Carpathain Basin. We also supported students of Hungarian descent in Florida through the Kossuth scholarship program. Our membership grew from 45 in 1995 to 177 in 2003. Our fund raising efforts were always met with generous and enthusiastic support by members and non-members alike. The result is that in the past nine years our scholarships and charitable contributions amounted to more than $150,000. Donations in 2003 were distributed as follows: Franz Liszt Academy Foundation (from the concerts in November) $13,000.00 Franz Liszt Academy Foundation (from the concert in 2002) $3,000.00 Hungarian schools in Transylvania $1,600.00 Hungarian University of Physical Education 1848 memorial $500.00 Hungarian Scouts in Canada $200.00 Statue of Michael de Kováts de Fabriczy $300.00 Kossuth Scholarships in Florida $1,000.00 Kossuth Scholarships in the Carpathian Basin $2,600.00 Sarasota Opera Association $100.00 The Penc Project (American Foundation for Hungarian Youth....) 120.00 Total: $22,420.00 The January Program.
