Selby Public Library, illustrated lecture by Dr. Alexander Csizinszky about his travels through Ukraine in 2003 (in Hungarian). • Sunday, October 12, 2:00 PM. Selby Public Library, Dr. Eugene Szonntágh: a musical tour of the history and characteristics of Hungarian music (in English). This lecture is presented jointly with Sarasota Music Archives, Inc. It is free and open to the public. • Saturday, October 18, all day, Robarts Arena: Hands of Heritage multicultural fair to commemorate the founding of Sarasota 100 years ago. Ibi Simon sings Hungarian folk songs. • Saturday, October 25, 11:30 AM, Michael’s on East Restaurant, luncheon ($25 each) and program to remember the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Keynote speaker Imre Farkas recalls his interview with Maria Schmidt, director of the House of Terror Museum in Budapest. Those interested should send a check payable to the Kossuth Club no later than October 17. • Thursday, October 30, 4:00 PM, Selby Public Library, Bouquet of Hungarian Poems performed by Hungarian actress Éva Mécs (in Hungarian). • The Hungarian Medical Association Annual Meetings from October 27 through 31 on Lido Key. • Wednesday, November 19, 5:00 PM, in Dohnányi Hall on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee: classical music concert by artists from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. • Friday, November 21, 8:00 PM, in the Sarasota Opera House: Benefit concert for the Hungarian University in Transylvania, “Budapest-Vienna Operetta Express,” highlights from the best of Hungarian operetta, artists of the Liszt Academy. • Monday, November 24, 7:00 PM, The Church of the Redeemer: Benefit concert for the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, followed by a reception. • Thursday, December 18, 4:00 PM, Selby Public Library: “The Old Curiosity Shop,” appraisal of antiques and knickknacks by antique dealer Roger Wilson. • Sunday, February 29, 1:30 PM, Sarasota Opera House: Puccini’s opera Tosco.
