Fifty years ago this year Kossuth Club member Magda Pattantyús and her late husband organized Boy Scout and Girl Scout troupes in Montreal. In order to help them celebrate this memorable anniversary the club sent 200 dollars to the current Scout Masters to partially cover the cost of preparations. Unique Gifts. During the winter months Piri Keddy visits Hungarian clubs and gatherings in southwest Florida to sell her collection of Hungarian souvenirs, imported and home-made food products, flags, T-shirts, music- and video tapes and books. She has displayed and sold her wares at several Kossuth Club meetings recently and donated ten percent of her sales to the club’s Education Fund. This issue of the newsletter includes announcements of both the April and May meetings as follows: • Thursday, April 17 at 4:30 PM in the Selby Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota): Desi K. Bognár: Visit to Nigeria—an illustrated lecture. Mr. Bognár is an author, lecturer and filmmaker. He has traveled extensively all over the world and spent several years in West Africa. His lecture is illustrated with colorful pictures of the art, folk custumes and distinctive look of both the traditional and modem Nigeria. • Wednesday, May 7 at 4:30 PM in the Selby Library (1331 First Street, Sarasota): András Evva: The Penc (Hungary) Project: Preservation of Hungarian Cultural Heritage. Mr. Evva is founder and director of The American Foundation for Hungarian Youth and Culture, Inc. (TAFHYAC). Their motto, „Those who don’t value the past shall also be without a future” expresses their aim which is the preservation of historic buildings (schools, churches, museums) and artifacts in Hungary. The pilot project for TAFHYAC is the restoration of buildings in the town of Penc (in County Pest, just north of Budapest). Mr. Evva will present a video of the official launch of the project last summer with the schoolchildren of Penc presenting a program of song and dance. Opening remarks by Representative Peter Harrach (former Secretary for Social Programs) are included as well as a recent interview with Mr. Harrach.
