THE MESSENGER Newsletter of the Kossuth Club May, 2002. Vol. 8. No. 5. Kossuth Concerts. During the past six years we presented ten successful concerts: three at the Sarasota Opera House, one at the West Coast Symphony Hall, four at the Church of the Redeemer, and one each at the Pineview School and the Hyatt Hotel. The concerts serve to 1. Introduce Sarasota audiences to Hungarian culture and young Hungarian musicians, and 2. As fund raisers for our scholarship program. We are fortunate to live in a city so receptive to cultural events as Sarasota where American audiences attended the concerts. We are also fortunate to have established an excellent relationship with the faculty and staff of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and in each case they sent a very talented group of young artists to perform. Those who were still students of the Academy when they performed in Sarasota are now starting successful careers in Hungary and in Europe. We are delighted to watch them grow and to know that we helped them early in their careers. The concerts could not have been as successful without our me 'uers and sponsors who gave generously of their time, hearts and money. We shall con this resource in planning future concerts. We shall also need parii.. igarian organizations elsewhere in the United States so that the artists perform in two o diree cities and the cost of overseas travel can be shared by the organizers. We thank soprano Ibi Simon (Tampa) and pianist Ildikó Vadas (Clearwater) who gave a delightful mini-concert after the Spring Luncheon at Michael’s on East. „Die Fledermaus” in Sarasota. In the 2003 season the Sarasota Opera will present this venerable classic by Johann Strauss. The Kossuth Club will receive a group discount of 15 pecent off the regular ticket price if more than twenty people sign up to attend a performance. We selected the matinee starting at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2003 as our special Kossuth Club „date.” Seats in section 2 (orchestra rows 16-17) normally sold at $60 will cost $50 per person if we place the order before June. To get the group discount and to assure our group the date we requested, please send us your paid orders no later than May 28. Make your check payable to the Kossuth Club, mark it „Die Fledermaus,” and mail to P. O. Box 19744, Sarasota, FL 34276. We will mail your tickets to you in September.—Have a safe and happy summer! 4
