19 3 7 — the 5 th International Congress of Master Printers was held in Budapest, where Imre Kner delivered a lecture under the title “Zeitfragen des typographischen Stils” (Actual problems of typographical style). A prominent coreferent of his was Ms Beatrice Warde from England. 1937 - member of the presidential board of the Hungarian National Exhibition of Printing, and one of the most active designers of the section “The history of letters and books”. 1937 - a repeated account on his readings in the “Az új könyvek könyve” (A new book on books) by Béla Kőhalmi. 1938 - together with Imre Cserépfalvi and György Haiman he furthered the publication of a volume of poems under the title “Meredek út” (On the slope) by Miklós Radnóti. May 29, 1938 — the law decree of 1938/15 on “the more effective insurance of the equilibrum of social and economic life”-in other words the act on Jews - was issued, whereupon Imre Kner resigned from all his previous memberships and functions of social associations. December 26, 1939 - Zoltán Károly expressed his thankfulness for the bibliophile booklets “Psalmus LV” and “Bordái” (Winesong) by Kölcsey, made by Kner in Kodály’s honour, at the same time he urged Kner to publish the Apology by Nicholas Kis Tótfalusi. February 7,1940 - in a letter written to Pál Szentkúty he gave up of writing a book about book art, his articles he called the sketches “of a book to be w ritten but maybe never completed.” 1940 - The Magyar Bibliophil Társaság (Hungarian Bibliophile Society) published the work “Régi hazai nyomdák mintakönyvei” (Type specimen books of old Hungarian printers). Kner contributed to it with his superb typography and significant but hardly credited professional skill. 203
