of independence. His restless exertions had ruined his nerves and body and, in a moment of mental confusion, he took his отп life. By the time of his death his plant had seven melting furnaces, hundred and fifty machines,, seven hundred workers and two 25— horse-power steam engines. It was also the time that his factory reached the world level of efficiency. The name and the memory of Abraham Ganz, the founder, the foundry master of Széchenyi, the friend of Kossuth, the pardoned revolutionary, the daring entrepreneur, the ingenious inventor, the merchant and moneymaker, the pioneer of workers’ welfare who founded a hospital , for his employees and paid them pensions, live on in the minds. The products of his factory are used in all 'parts of the world, and the four letters of his name stand for the prestige of the industrial production of this country. The foundry of the old Ganz workshop was spared from demolition, and, after remodelling and renovation, will house, from 1968 onward, the Ganz Museum which, while displaying the life work of the famous founder, will also introduce the visitors to the history of Hungarian metallurgy. Thus the old foundry, as an art monument, will preserve the memory of the past. József Szekeres / 144 ____
