Chapter ГЕ1 Patent information abroad, outlines the organizational structure of patent information, which has considerably different features in the socialist and non-socialist countries. In the socialist countries, authorities for the protection of industrial property are acting as policy-making bodies of information, and not infrequently as bodies of implemention, as well. In the Soviet Union, the patent library "VPTB", the information institute "CNHPI", and the polygraphic enterprise "Patent" play an important part in information, in addition to the territorial and branch industrial patent collections. The three-level patent information system of the German Democratic Republic is composed of the related activities of the Office for Inventions, the branch information centres, and of the industrial trusts. Centres of patent information in Czechoslovakia, Poland, and the rest of the CMEA countries have also been built up adequately. Industrial property offices in certain capitalist countries are also displaying such information activities. In the capitalist countries, however, certain significant private enterprises, too, such as DERWENT, INTERPAS, Polyresearch Nippon Ltd., Japanese Patent Center, NILA Verlag, CAS, etc. are pursuing information activities. Chapter TV. International relations in patent information, reports on the fact that the offices for inventions of the CMEA member states have been cooperating, for more than a decade, in the field of patent information and documentation, too, and makes an account of the results so far achieved and the expectable trends of development. Understandably enough, the most extensive international relations have been developed within the WIPO. It was also within this framework that the activities of ICXREPAT as a committee of experts of the Paris Union have taken shape.
