In a charter issued in Déda in 1367, the four sheriffs of Bereg county officially testified that Master János, son of Bogama, was the vice-prefect of Bereg county. Data proving that the sheriffs of Bereg county used so-called gemma signet rings have survived from 1373, 1497 and 1321.6 Out of the people present those who were literates, also attested their signatures to the document, in addition to their seals. The procedure was different from county to county, but the majority issued official documents verified with three or five private seals, similarly to the practice of Bereg.
