generalities so they do not show a real picture of the structure of properties in Szabolcs county in the 18 th century. In spite of all their deficiency and inaccuracy the tables contain appreciable data, as well. Using these data certain categories of property can be set up and nobles can be classified according to the size of their properties. CSABA KATONA: The Citizens of Debrecen Coming from Szabolcs County between 1733-1867 The majority of citizens of Debrecen came from local families but the town was willing to accept people coming from other villages to a certain extent, as well. There were always some people among the newcomers who became not only inhabitants but also citizens of Debrecen. The volumes of 'Matricula Civium' serve as the sources of research. The highest number of occasions when civil rights were granted was in the second half of the 18 th century. Later their number decreased and in the middle of the 19 th century it happened only occasionally. Szabolcs county served as the basis of supply of the citizens of Debrecen throughout the current period. About 246 people, mainly artisans arrived from 60 settlements. While half of the settlements gave only one person, the other half gave more settlers to the town. Most of them moved from Nagykálló, which was the county town at that time, as progress came to a sudden stop there and there were less and less opportunities to work. The situation in Nyírbátor was the same. Obviously, the immigration from the villages of South-Szabolcs situated in the district of Debrecen was significant. FERENC SZÁSZI: The Inner Migration of the Population of Szabolcs-Szatmár County (1949-1960) The author studies the migration of the population of Szabolcs-Szatmár in the county and within Hungary, as well.
