in Serbo-Croatian language as well, but after signing the agreement on population exchange it was entirely subordinated to the purpose of propagating the agreement. As a result most of the writings published in the paper were heavily biased. The authors of the articles presented Czechoslovakia as a paradise, thus attempting to convince as many ethnic Slovakians to move as possible. From its second year Sloboda regularly published writings describing the life of the Slovakians -Tirpaks. These articles fall into two categories: the first category talks about the cultural traditions, economic and social situation of the ethnic Slovakians, the other deals with the direct events of repatriation. The articles in the paper contained information about the census as part of which the number and personal data of the Slovakians wishing to move were recorded, the preparations made to move, and from the 3 rd year, about the new home of the settlers who moved. Dikan THE REVOLUTIONARY COMMITTEE OF PROFESSIONALS IN NYIREGYHAZA IN OCTOBER 1956 An assembly of professionals was summoned to the county headquarters of trade unions, formerly the headquarters of the farmers' union. The date of the meeting was 30 October 1956. Arnold Demjanovics, PE teacher, a staff member of the town's Physical Education and Sports Committee initiated the meeting, as he was not satisfied with the way the revolutionary committees in the town and the county were organized, and with the composition of these committees. After the uprising of the 26 th of October 1956 in Nyiregyhaza, a number of revolutionary committees were set up. Their composition was characterized by spontaneity rather than any systematic concept. At the preparatory meeting on 29 October, 16-17 people, doctors, teachers, lawyers and the representatives of various churches were present. They agreed upon setting up a committee of professionals consisting of 10 people. The members recommended for the committee were Arnold Demjanovics, teacher, Bela Babicz, doctor, Laszlo Debreczeni driver (army officer before 1945), Sandor Horvath, secondary school teacher, Gusztav Kaplar, Roman Catholic priest, Lehel Smid, Evangelical priest, Antal Lengyel journalist, the former owner of "Nyirseg", the paper of the Social Democratic Party banned in 1948, Gyorgy Lupkovics, accountant, former judge, Mihaly Barota, teacher of Pal Vasvari Secondary School and Karoly Bencs, member of the opposition Liberty Party, later a member of Pfeiffer's Independence Party. Chairman Sandor Horvath informed the people present about the purpose of organizing the committee so that professionals may occupy a due position in the life of the community of the town. The objectives of the committee included new and democratic elections and new committees to govern the town and county. Arnold Demjanovics read the list of names of the people recommended for the committee, requesting the approval of the people present. The address by Istvan Sziklai, who had been a lawyer before the war, was so successful the meeting appointed him as the eleventh member of the committee.
