AN OUTLINE OF THE HISTORY WRITING OF SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR

fehérvár which was published as the first volume in the series of the Publications from the History of Székesfehérvár in 1927. Other notable works bv Juhász are the Publications from the administration before 1 848 in Székesfehérvár, which was published in 1931. 32 Among his several valuable works the Fejér county volume in the Hungarian towns and counties monograph series is worth mentioning. He is not only one of the authors of the volume, but he co-edited the book with the renowned researcher of nobilitv, Miklós Schneider, the chief archivist of the county. Among the publications of the 1930s the work by Géza Szarka and István Láng, the Festive Year of Székesfehérvár in 1938, bears special importance; it describes not onlv the events of the Saint Stephen Year, but also the development and embellishment of town that had been carried out before. The book was prefaced by Bálint Hornau, the historian, Minister of Religion and Education and MP of the town. We can not regard this work as one about town history, although it desribes a dynamic period of the town, and contains some important historical data. Following the nationalisation of the municipal archives historical works were not written for as long as two decades. Besides the work of Károly Jenei the research of István Kállay were significant. The works of the feudal period's town histoiy expert were published not this time, but in 1968 in the Historical Almanac of Fejér County published in series. Several discourses elaborated the histoiy of Székesfehérvár in the historical almanac that was published by the county archives under the editorship of Gábor Farkas. Besides a discourse by István Kállay we can mention Vera Bácskai, Sarolta Czakó, Géza Érszegi, Károly Jenei and Ferenc Glatz among others. In 1988 the 18 th volume of the almanac, titled The regiment of Fehérvár in 1688-1849, elaborates the history of the town after the Turkish period; it is the most thorough work that gives an insight into the everyday life of the town and the details of town history. The King Stephen Museum also proved to be a significant academic workshop, which published several town history researches. Some of the most outstanding ones are the discourses titled the Centuries of Székesfehérvár published under the editorship of Alán
