and to do so they asked Székesfehérvár's consent as they wished to in­corporate the history of Székesfehérvár in this work. The general as­sembly of the town asked the council's opinion on this matter. 15 Dur­ing the year they discussed the issue again, and asked the town arch­ives' help to complete the work. They decided on appointing a dele­gate of the town in the monograph's board of supervision. Only moral support and help in the research to complete the work was provided, no decision was made on the contribution to the cost of the mono­graph. 16 Just before the millennium celebrations the municipal board dis­cussed the preparations of the monograph on several occasions. First Tolna county informed Székesfehérvár about compiling a mono­graph. 17 The year before the festive year a proposal was made again to accomplish the work. The search for pre-Turkish period files of the archives was started in Bratislava. 18 However, not much progress was made this time or later; the general assembly approved of the transcripts of the other municipalities and the files were placed in the archives without any further measures. 19 In the following year, however, the general assembly set up a subcommittee for completing the monograph. 20 In the late 19 th century János Károly (1843-1916) the provost of Székesfehérvár was the greatest scholar in the history of the town and the county. 21 In addition to his numerous ecclesiastic writings he wrote historical works in the 1870s. The earliest introduction to the archives in Fejér county was carried out by him; it was published on the occasion of the national exhibition of 1879, held in Székes­fehérvár. It was titled Documents from Count Ferenc Nádasdy' s Archives of Nádasdladány. His Almanac for the Centenary of the Bishopric of Székes­fehérvár is also a notable work, published in 1877. Among his works the most outstanding are The castle and Domains of Csókakő and Docu­ments from the family Archives of Vincze Salamon of Alap - these discourses were published in the almanac of the Town History and Archaeologi­cal Society of Fejér County and Székesfejérvár.
