A Historical and Archival Guide to Székesfehérvár (Székesfehérvár, 2003)

THE HISTORY OF SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR TOWN ARCHIVES

spirit of commemorating the war and revolution of 1848-49. Three conferences out of four were dedicated to this topic. The research workers of the archives took part in a course of lectures that revealed the events of the town in 1848-49. It offered possibility for the citizens of Székesfehérvár to learn more about the history of their town. We launched a series of conferences on the history of finances; the first part of it was held in 1998, which covered the Hungarian history of finances from the period of the Árpád dynasty to the Angevin period. The second part was held in 1999, when the finances of Hungary in the period of the Turkish occupation and that of Rákóczi 's insurrection were covered. At the 125 lh anniversary of the Vörösmarty Theatre of Székesfehérvár our institute and the theatre organised a conference together on the history of theatres and the history of acting in Székesfehérvár in the frame of a series of programmes. In 2001 we compiled an exhibition on school history at the 125 th anniversary of the founding of Teleki Blanka Secondary Grammar School of Székesfehérvár. In January 2002 we made a document exhibition on the history of the Lutheran congregation of Székesfehérvár, titled "Living stones". It was followed by the exhibition on the viticulture of Székesfehérvár, to mention onlv the most important ones. We regard organising conferences and exhibitions as an important scientific and educational duty, for the relationship between the source-preserving archives and the town citizens can be shaped and maintained this way.
