SUMMARY w e have celebrated significant anniversaries in the past few years all over the country. We commemorated the 1100th anniversary of the Hungarian conquest, the 150th anniversary of the Revolution and War of Independence in 1848-49 and we also greeted the Millenium of the Hungarian state together with the Millenium of the world. Our institute, the Archives of Székesfehérvár also took part in these memorable events. The Archives of Székesfehérvár has organized a number of scholarly conferences since its refoundation in 1992. These conferences covered several significant periods of Hungarian and local history. The first of its kind w T as in 1993 titled „Diploma Leopoldinum" when we commemorated how the town got back its title „free royal borough". In 1996 we held a conference about the Basilica of St. Stephen as a sacral place. The lectures of the conference were published in a book in the same year. In 1997 these events were related to Prince Géza, the „father" of the Hungarian state, and the 775th anniversary of the Golden Bull. The years of 1998-99 were countermarked by the Revolution and War of Independence in 1848-49. Three out of the four conferences were devoted to the important events of the revolution. Researchers of the Archives took part in holding a series of lectures about the history of Székesfehérvár in 1848-49 which helped local people to learn more about the past and history of their home town. We started a new conference series on the financial history. The first part was held in 1998 covering the period from the Árpád-dynasty to the Anjou period. We held the second part of this conference in 1999 which was about the financial history of the Turkish period and the Rákóczi The archives of the town has had a publication every year since its reorganization. First of all the institute published „The History of Székesfehérvár" in four volumes written by Gyula Lauschmann undoubtedly essential in the history of the town. Then it published „The Home Guards of Székesfehérvár" written by Imre M agony. In 1999 the second edition of „The History of Székesfehérvár" came out together with a large collection of original source material and illustrations covering the period of 1848-49 titled „Sources from the History of Székesfehérvár".
