Az egyházmegye intézményei
fine work of the modern architecture, as well as St. Nicholas church of Ivanc, of the same time, which harmoniously mix the secessionist efforts with the traditional popular art of Transylvania. Churches built in the recent decades, those in Molnári, in Csörötnek, and the ecumenical chapel of Pálfiszeg, with their construction of high standard and with their equippments of artistic finish, truly reflect the feelings of today's people. The equippments and furnishings of the diocesan churches: statues, monstrances, liturgical apparels are quasi complementary to the buildings. The Pieta of St. Maria Magdalen church, in Zalaegerszeg, the statues of the main altar of the church, in Egervár, the tabernacle, in Vasegerszeg, the large-sized group of statues, in Szécsisziget, are the integral part of the house of Cod. Calavaries, representing Christ's Via Dolorosa, can be found in a simpler or in a more decorative execution everywhere in the diocese. Stations of the Cross with their churches and chapels, those in Kőszeg, Zalaegerszeg, Sárvár and Szombathely should be mentioned. Along the roads, there are crosses and statues on many bridges. People who ask God for his blessings erected them. Others were put there in thanksgiving or in the loving memory of those who died. They are made of stone or wood. In the southern part of the diocese, crosses mostly made of wood, can be found since centuries. People in charge do replace those which are decayed. With its beauty and right placement, the cross on the confines of Ivánc, stand pre-eminent among the many hundreds. The colourful painting brings out its popular character. On the occasion of the Holy Father's visit to Szombathely, this volume wishes to present some of these works of art of our diocese. 144
