II. A magyarországi sörfőzés története
A Kőbányai lubileum 125 söre díjat nyert a Monde Selection versenyen 1984-ben, Madridban The Kőbánya lubilee 125 beer won an award at the Monde Selection in 1984 in Madrid since you've come out to Kőbánya and have honoured us with your visit, I'd like to ask you to join me for a tour of the brewery, let's take a look at it. Even if they weren’t experts, they saw what the conditions were like in the plant. The comrades joined me for the tour and of course 1 took them to the area that was in the worst shape. The point is that after their visit they voted for the 1.3 billion forints in credits from the state that we needed for the reconstruction, with a favourable repayment plan. We also had our own funds to add, so we had 1.7 billion in total for the reconstruction. Looking back, 1 now know that if we had not done it at the time, then the Kőbánya Brewery would no longer exist. Everything was so outdated that if someone had bought the company they would have only done so to get their hands on the plot of land underneath. Because it is a huge, beautiful industrial site. Today, people don't even realise how important that was. I think it's fair to say that the reconstruction was the most momentous event in the Kőbánya Brewery's history in the 20th century. As a result of the successfully realised upgrade, the brewery's capacity reached its historical peak in 1986, when it produced 4.3 million hectolitres of beer. (Three million of these was bottled beer.)
