These are the questions that we want to address while we simultaneously offer our readers a comprehensive overview of the process of beer brewery, its ingredients and its storage, as well as the changes that these have undergone throughout history. Numerous existing publications deal with the history of beer or with individual types of beer. We intended the present volume as a summary and comprehensive overview that relies on illustrative examples to discuss the features of individual periods during this time. We complement this discussion with cultural historical aspects of beer brewery and beer consumption. Our volume also relies on a wealth of photographic materials, as well as excerpts from historical newspapers and literature, to lighten the reading. We wish our readers a wonderful reading experience in reading this book and trust that their overall impression will be the opposite of the prominent aphorism of the great German writer lohann Wolfgang von Goethe, who said that "Beer is a great enjoyment for us, whereas books are only a source of annoyance." We hope that you will enjoy our publication accompanied by a pitcher or glass of beer; and when you taste the beer and enjoy its flavours, it will bring to mind the rich history of beer spanning millennia, the immense variety in the way it is produced and its Hungarian traditions.
