Classical music on the new labels The production and distribution of classical music records always represented only a thin slice of the market. In spite of this numerous new publishers appeared with classical music recordings after the change in political system. A significant number of whom sold only one record. Others, with sponsors and other backing, have been able to cling on for longer. The fact that numerous musicians, groups and music societies have taken the sound recording, publishing, and distribution of their own work into their own hands has been a significant step forward, making them independent of the primarily profit-centred publishers. The musical range embraces the entire spectrum of music history.
