A profusion of operetta Sound recordings that immortalised the world-famous Hungarian operetta brought in a significant income for the state Hungarian record industry during the twenti­eth century. External commissions (Hungarian abbreviation: KR) - sub-contracted pressing (Hungarian abbreviation: BP) "External commissions" generally meant company orders for the state monopoly company Hungaroton. Records that were linked to one-off events could be ordered under strictly con­trolled conditions. The "sub-contracted pressing" category introduced by Hungaroton in 1986 was one of the most important indications of the changes in cultural regulation. From that point companies or individuals with the appropriate legal permission were able to sub­contract practically without restriction. There had not been so much interest nor so many record orders as there were in the late 80s, early 90s since the twenties. Some three thousand private individuals, companies, societies and foundations have released records over the last two decades.
