Simon Géza Gábor: „Csillogó fekete lemezeken…” 100 éves a magyar hanglemezgyártás és -forgalmazás (Budapest, 2008)
First Swallows We can trace the Budapest phonograph dealers more or less exactly after 1902. Personal directories providing slightly uncertain information can be substantiated by entries from the company registry court. One of the earliest businesses, Mascagni Record, had appeared in the registry a year earlier in 1902 but had not even registered at the registry court; the law however allowed this. Mascagni Record Company, initially based at 2 Ferencziek Square, was owned by phonograph dealers Avram Schlesinger and Leó Schlesinger. Only Avram Schlesinger was entitled to register the company. He lived at 15 Múzeum Ring and the main shop of the Mascagni Record Company soon moved here. Echo Phonograph (later: Fonográf) Company appeared on the market in 1903. It was owned by the married couple Vincze Venczel Sallai and his wife Mrs Sallai, née Júlia Arnstein, "dealers in patented technical products and 'Echo' phonographs". The company was registered at 8 Kossuth Lajos St in Budapest's 4 lh (today 5 th ) district. A host of phonograph factories appear in 1904: Sternberg and Columbia, 'Aranyfény" (Gold light), as well as Csillag és Deckmann Company. The latter operated from 3 Ferencziek Square as the "Aranyfény" Company, roll and phonograph manufacturing facilities, and Csillag és Deckmann phonographic roll factory. Their connections are also shown by the shared telephone number (5-50). These companies mentioned were not only manufacturers but also dealers. The Csillag és Deckmann Company is a particularly interesting example; Salamon Csillag and Gyula Deckmann were registered as "business owners selling lighting and heating equipment and new technical inventions". The gramophone warehouse of Sternberg Ármin és Testvére by appointment to the emperor and king was located in the 8 th district at 38 Kerepesi (today: Rákóczi) Road. Their branch named "Zenepalota" ("Music Palace") was at 2 Károly Ring in the 4 th (today 5 th ) district. In their adverts they highlighted the fact that is the corner building on Kossuth Lajos St. The
