Saly Noémi: Café?! Változatok és változások Időszaki kiállítás 2007. február–május (Budapest, 2007)

A 20. század második felében feledésbe merült az a hosszú és dicső korszak, amikor a kávéházak számát, szépségét és színvonalát tekintve Bécset is jócskán megelőztük. De Budapest talán soha nem is Bécshez akart igazán hasonlítani: a vágyott mintakép Párizs volt és maradt. A városszerkezet (körutak, sugárutak, középütt a folyó) mellett a két világháború között létesült, modern kávéházak is inkább Párizst idézték, utánozták. Az 1990-es években kezdődött nagy megújulás során sok kávés ezt az utat folytatta. A belső terek kialakítása sokféle, de közös bennük, hogy nem akarnak „régiek" lenni. Színesek, „pörgősek", a kávé mellett szendvicseket, salátákat, koktélokat kínálnak, mindig szól valami zene, és a vendégek többsége a 20 és 30 év közötti korosztályhoz tartozik. A sort a Vian francia tulajdonosa nyitotta - a Liszt Ferenc tér harmadik kávéházával, de ebben a stílusban úttörőként -, és a Lipótváros vagy a Ráday utca sok üzlete is ebbe az irányba indult. The long and glorious era when the number, elegance and standard of cafés even surpassed Vienna by a considerable degree, seems to have fallen into oblivion in the second half of the 20

th century. But perhaps Budapest newer really wanted to be like Vienna: the model it longed to emulate was and remained Paris. Along with the structure of the city (boulevards, avenues, the river at its centre), the modern cafés that came into being between the two world wars were more likely to evoke and imitate Paris. During the big regeneration started m the 1990s, many café owners followed this path. There are many types of interior design, but what they have in common is that they do not want to be 'old'. They are colourful and bustling, they offer sandwiches, salads and cocktails besides coffee, there is always some music and most of their clientele are in the 20 to 30 age group. This trend was started by the French owner of the Vian - the third café m Liszt Ferenc Square, but a pioneer in this genre - and the many places in Leopold town and Ráday Street also started along this route.
