Tanulmányok, közlemények - Dr. Domonkos Ottó: Ismeretlen adatok a kékfestés technológiájából
Dr.0.Domonkos : Unknown data about the technolo gy of blue dyeing Summary In the middle of the 18th century blue dyeing became generally spread and hundreds of small workshps were established in Hungary. Some of them developed into factories, manual technology fell into the background and the old methods were used only in small workshops. Some of these methods mentioned below may give the impression of a surprise but we no reason to doubt the personal experience of old craftsmen. In the beginning of the 2oth century when making patterns masters used mottling hammer, floating wick fixed to the forehead and other devices. Mottling with brooms of birch and broomcorn is known from Székesfehérvár, Békéscsaba, Nagyszombat und őlubló. The method called bandana can be recognized on the patterns from Pöstyén and on the national costums from the environs of Kyjov. Treffre mottling that is designing on both sides was often mentioned in the masters' descriptions in Szepesség between 1848-1871 "... bestehend aus 12 St. gegengepassten Ticheln Its material remains are known from Sopron, Haja and the practice from Jászapáti, Kecskemét from the thirties of this century. A new process was Lichtendruck in 1799 in Szepesváralja but unfortunately its substance is not known. Over the methods of blue dyers designing with blue, green, yellow, red and orange oil paints on shawls was very popular on the turn of the century. This practice was wide-spread in the country. A lot of workshops especially in towns were engaged in pattern stencilling for embroidery. Blind printing of plush and velvet small shawls with the help of card and hot iron was also applied in a workshop in county Baranya. Between 195o and 196o these data were already known as the memory of the general practice of previous centuries .
