After this Dr. György Székely dwelt on one special group of problems, on the organizational questions of village performances in Hungary. In the following discussion it was agreed upon that in our times it is impossible to promote the development of the theatre if we approach it only from an aesthetical point of view. The practical men of the theatre said that the factors that were touched upon in Mr. Székely's lecture (building, technique, conveyance, Workshops, the study of the audience, legal, organizational and constructional problems) might seem irrelevant to the aesthetics of the theatre, but in fact they exercise a very great influence upon the creative work that is going on in the theatre, upon the practice that secures the artistic achievements. The important result of this scientific jubilee session of the Institute of Theatrical Sciences is that in the course of the debate the partakers brought up a number of questions the solving of which is fundamentally important in raising the standard of theatrical culture. The necessity of the collaboration of the practical men of the theatre and the contribution of the different branches of science was also mentioned. To meet all these demands the Institute plans to further develop its expert committees. - 189 -
