Bevezető
Introduction This book is the second edition of the updated Theatre Yearbook, which aims to cover the last season of Hungarian theatre as thoroughly as possible. In the first part of the current edition, we publish company data, irrespective of the company’s genre or operating methods. Professional companies are listed as well as independent and alternative companies. We have registered companies, which deal exclusively with prose works alongside musical companies, dances theatres, and children’s theatres. Furthermore, we publish the most important data (mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, email address, website, and the name of the managing director), broken down into four chapters. In the first chapter, we list companies with a permanent venue and venues, which host theatrical productions. (The printing specifies whether the entry is a theatrical company, a wing of a larger institution, a chamber theatre, a studio theatre, or another venue for performances.) We have also included the seating capacity and ticket prices for each venue. In the second chapter, production companies without a permanent venue are listed. Their most pertinent data (mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, email address, website, and the name of the managing director) also include the venues where they perform most often. According to our basic concept, we have only listed companies considered to be stable formations and those, which have had a premiere within the last two seasons. (The only exceptions to this rule are those children’s theatres, which operate permanently, but do not produce a new premiere each season.) The third chapter is devoted to open-air theatres that run during the summer. The fourth chapter is for Hungarian theatre outside the Hungarian border. Following the four chapters, companies and company data are listed, together with last season’s premieres. The numbers here refer to entry numbers in the second part of the yearbook. For this edition, we have added information regarding theatrical institutions as well as higher-education theatrical training programs. The second part of the Yearbook deals with detailed data regarding last season’s productions. This information is listed by the title of the performance, in alphabetical order, according to the Hungarian spelling and without regard to articles in the titles. We publish the title of the production, the original title of the piece, its genre, the producers ’ names, and the cast list (including the roles performed), followed by the production site, premiere 9
