Bevezető
This Annual contains all the relevant data concerning the activity of Hungarian professional theatres at home and abroad in the past season. The most important group of data contains the repertory and the list of first nights during the season distributed theatre by theatre. Besides the relevant bibliographical data of the plays put on stage (the author’s name, the title and the original title, the genre, the translator's name) the annual lists all contributors to the production: the stage and costume designers, the conductor, the choreographer, the director, and supplies the date of the first night or revival. All the data published here are based on the information provided by the playbills of the theatres and thus do not always conform to the dramaturgical definitions. Preceding this list of first nights and repertory we publish also the list of the staff belonging to each theatre from members of the artistic management to the actors themselves. Besides the permanent theatres subsidized by the state in Budapest and throughout the country, the Yearbook contains the programme of the professional groups founded on private initiative which came into being during the last season. However, performances of amateur and university theatres are not included. A separate chapter is devoted to open-air performances, to guestperformances of Hungarian companies abroad and of foreign theatres in Hungary. The reader is provided with information concerning remarkable theatrical events of the last season such as exhibitions, festivals, rewards, commemorations, conferences, deceases. The annual is also a practical guide to institutions attached to the theatre (organizations, museums, archives, collections) as well as to Hungarian theatres beyond our frontiers. A bibliography of playtexts and books on theatre published in Hungary is also included. The index to authors and titles refers to the items while the index to contributors to the page numbers.
