SZÁZAD ELSŐ FELÉBEN Abstract: [Cooperatives in the valley of Nicou-Alb in the first half of the 20th century] This work is the suite of the researches made in the valley of Homorod, study published in 1995. It is ready for printing the study on the valley of Goagiu and Târnava Mare, the last part is going to approach the zone in the North of Odorheiu Secuiesc. From the administrative point of view the villages of the valley of Nicou-Alb, situated in the north-west between Odorheiu Secuiesc (Rom.; - Hung.: Székelyudvarhely) and Cristuru Secuiesc (Rom.; - Hung.: Székelykeresztúr), are the component villages of two communes: Lupeni Secuiesc (Rom.; - Hung.: Farkaslaka) and Şimoneşti Secuiesc (Rom.; - Hung.: Siménfalva). The szekler population of the area follows the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Unitarian cults. The beginning of the study offers a historic sketch of the cooperative movement, been born in England, spread later in Hungary and Transylvania also. The author presents the written documents still existing in the region, the built inheritance, as well as the verbal memoirs of the old persons, which give evidence of the successful development of the activity of the various forms of cooperation: societies of the farmers, milk-collecting cooperatives, societies of consumption and credit. The author gathered proofs concerning the favourable economic influence of cooperatives, taking at the same time into consideration the human-spiritual aspects: thanks to the forms of cooperation the economic prosperity of the region was doubled by a bloom of the cultural life. The cooperative spirit increased the social sensibility of the population, deepened the solidarity and contributed to the maintenance of law and order of villages. Basing itself on the Christian charitable spirit, it opposed to the merciless utilitarianism of the capitalist free-market economy, by trying to offer a protection to the individuals organized in the community. Rezumat: [Cooperative în valea Nicoului Alb în prima jumătate a secolului al 20-lea] Lucrarea este continuarea cercetărilor din valea Homoroadelor, studiu publicat în 1995. Este gata pentru tipar studiul care cuprinde valea Goagiului şi a Târnavei Mari, şi va urma studierea zonei de nord de la Odorheiu Secuiesc. Din punct de vedere administrativ localităţile pe de valea Nicoului Ab, situate la nord-vest între Odorheiu Secuiesc (magh.: Székelyudvarhely) şi Cristuru Secuiesc (magh.: Székelykeresztúr), sunt satele componente a două mari comune: Lupeni (magh.: Farkaslaka) şi Şimoneşti (magh.: Siménfalva). Populaţia secuiască a ţinutului urmează cultele romano-catolic, reformat şi unitarian. Introducerea lucrării este o schiţă a istoriei mişcării cooperatiste, pornită din Anglia, răspândită pe urmă şi în Ungaria şi Transilvania. Sunt prezentate documentele scrise încă existente în zonă, moştenirea construită, respectiv rememorările verbale al vârstnicilor, care atestă desfăşurarea cu succes a activităţii diferitelor forme de cooperaţie: cercul gospodarilor, cooperative de colectare a laptelui, cooperative de consum şi de credit. Autorul a strâns dovezi despre rolul economic favorabil al cooperativelor, dar acordă atenţie şi laturii umane-spirituale: datorită formelor de cooperaţie avântul economic al ţinutului a fost dublat de înflorirea vieţii culturale. Spiritul cooperatist a dus la sensibilizarea socială a populaţiei, la adâncirea sentimentului de solidaritate şi la menţinerea ordinii obşteşti a satelor. Pe baza spiritului creştinesc de caritate s-a opus utilitarismului necruţător dictat de libera concurenţă de pe piaţa capitalistă, încercând să ofere protecţie individului grupat în colectivitate. 131 T
