Abstract: [Old bound big gates of the Fiság Valley] The 6 villages of the Fiság Valley belong to the archaic settlements of Seklerland. The houses, gates rescued into museums, the studies that analyze and mention the region show that these villages have attracted the attention of the ethnographical literature. But still nobody has analyzed thoroughly the valuable carved gates from here. The authors point to the fact that here has survived the largest number of gates built between 1775 and 1870, and their thorough protection is still not solved. They counted up 32 gates in the region, on the basis of which they separated three important types. The drawings and photos attached to the essay reveal the details of the gates. The descriptions published in the appendix look over those gates from the Fiság valley, which still can be seen today. A gyors folyású Fiság pataka és mellékpatakjai több helységen vágtatnak át. Az erdő tövében fekvő Pottyandtól (a falu névváltozatai: Potyond, Pottyond - szerk. megj.) lefelé (Csík)Menaságot, Menaságújfalut, Csíkszentgyörgyöt, majd Bánkfalvát szelik át. A völgy kissé félreeső faluja, Kotormány, mint Bánkfalva valamikori tízese, történetileg szintén a Fiság völgyéhez tartozik. A hat falu megélhetésének alapját hosszú évszázadokon keresztül a hatalmas erdőhatár, a gyors folyású patak és az állattartás biztosította.
