Five national companies were set up from its remains. In other words, MAORT was dissolved as of December 31, 1949; it lived on nevertheless in conventional wisdom. Those working in the crude oil mining plants of the Transdanubia region, and the inhabitants of Zala County's villages kept on referring to oil industry facilities as MAORT for many a rear. In 1933, EUROGASCO brought state-of-the-art techniques and technology, as well as sophisticated work organisation methods to Hungary, which were not known here. Hardly two years needed to pass for MAORT - a company it created - to fight itself to the top ranks of Hungarian industry. Its very existence boosted the country's economy, and did a whole lot more in Zala: it created jobs, good roads, bridges, natural gas heating, etc., thereby reviving this crown county which had ended up on the fringes of a country dissected by the Trianon treaty. The first team of specialists in Hungarian crude oil mining grew up underneath MAORT's wings. The discoverers of the Nagylengyel, then the first of the Great Plains' significant hydrocarbon fields came from their ranks, along with university professors, the instructors of internationally acclaimed professionals still alive today.
