SAINT ELIZABETH PARISH CHURCH, BUDAPEST The Parish Church of Saint Elizabeth of the Árpád Dynasty is one of the largest neo-Gothic churches of the Carpathian Basin. Its designer, Imre Steindl, the creator of the Houses of Parliament, was a professor of architecture with European reputation. Consecrated in 1901, the building is a fortunate combination of early French and German Gothic traits. Its variegated formation of masses, its splendid spatial effects, rich interior furnishings and decorations make it one of the most valuable pieces of turn-of-the-century sacral architecture which has come down to us untouched. Although certain repairs were made after the Second World War on damage caused by the bombing, the church was not renovated over the past five decades. Of the glass windows only those in the presbytery remained intact, as well as the rose window on the main façade. The tracery of the other ten windows of the neve will be reconstructed, as well as the stained glass windows, according to the original plans designed in the workshop of Miksa Róth. The replacement of these windows is the first step in the restoration process aimed at restoring the church interior to its unique beauty.
