CALVINIST CHURCH, SONKÁD Featuring a simple nave, the church was built in the 15th century, and was added a three-level late baroque steeple in the early 19th century. The church is especially valued for its 18th century popular baroque painted furnishings made of wood, the most beautiful pieces of which are the organ-loft, pulpit and the ornate serrated canopy above the pulpit, as well as the panelled ceiling. The western portal, the stone frame of the vestry door, and the pastoforium renovated in the course of restoration, as well as the indication of where the demolished medieval vaults used to be, evoke the medieval character of the church. Furthermore, the furnishings are also going to be renovated, as well as the vivid painted floral motifs on the wall which conjure up the colourful popular baroque world of the 18th century. The reconstructed medieval vestry will house an exhibition presenting the architectural and restoration history of the church.
