KIÁLLÍTÁS - Bujdosó Győző: A Wendingen címlapjai 1918-1931

Győző BUJDOSÓ FRONT PAGES OF „WENDINGEN" 1918-1931 Some thoughts on the November 1996 exhibition of the OMvH Front pages are keys for the media - this is even more evident today. Formerly new technique, the colour printed press publications have got this answer from users of media: new formal characteristics, new system of proportions, the influence of the new technology of colours, the artistic or architectural impression of letters and tipography, looking for new means of expression in painting and its objective use. On the other hand the effort for reinterpretation and reuse of past can also be felt: woodcuts, ancient stylistic elements, exotic cultures, promitice art and even children's drawings are present, and the idea that branches of art have a common essence, and their common existence has to be created again. What should be proportion of reused and new works? The answer could be that mental state shown by the magazin „Wendingen" published between 1918-31 by the architects' society „Architectura et Amicitia". They had created a society of friends and had time to listen to each other and the world surrounding them. They made a magazine following the working method of the members: they constructed, and built it by brush, pencil, chisel and their hands. That is it bore their handmarks and their personality. So the method itself was old, the result was however new - making and personality came through the material and the publication. The creator can be well identified on the front pages: the sober purism of Dudok and his monochrom surfaces of special proportions remind us to his buildings. In spite of their static character and weight they show unbelievable energies. His front pages are perhaps the most monumental and classic. A cooler and clearer style is represented by the style of Dudok, Wijdeveld and Staal. The others can be arranged around this main stream. Johannes L. M. Lauweriks, Michel de Klerk, (J.) Sluijters are trying to create a world of colours and forms full of fancy, built often on sophisticated geometric construction. Jan Toorop, the half Far-Eastern, strange painter had even surpassed them showing elementary forces, the depth of soul. He must have had an overwhelming influence on architects, who often had made front pages for Toorop publications. (W. van Koijnenburg, 1918.) The 2.5.1923. issue of Sluijters had shown the world of children's drawings on the front page of the exclusive architectural magazine. This was a wild and spontaneous water-colour in black-red-blue colours. But woman also appears on front page - as well as dreams, tales, myths, sensuality and chrystals - typical objects of art nouveau and art deco reflecting the age, like the style of posters often with political meaning (e.g. Hildo Krop 9.9.1928., M. de Klerk, 3.4.1921. issues.)
