Záróbeszédek / Closing speeches - ÁGOSTHÁZI László

churches were all included in our programme. Looking at the list we can confidently say that we have got a colourful picture of the tasks for monument protection, although many items were not touched upon. Everyone knows these issues from his or her practice and also how difficult it could be to exhaust the colours of our palette. Beside 12 Hungarian speakers we had the opportunity to listen to 8 speakers from abroad. In addition we must emphasise the five voluntary and spontaneous presentations by our Slovak colleagues. Their participation was exemplary concerning both the contents and the form. The round-table discussion is worth a separate mention. This was really the venue where we were able to discuss our ideas arising after the lectures. The active participation suggests that the organisers of the next summer university should include more venues in the programme that will give the participants the opportunity for direct professional debates and talks. I think that this opportunity could be utilised by the participants in many ways. The round-table talk focused on the issues concerning authenticity, recognising the fact that it is very difficult to give an exact answer to authenticity, but open professional debates are necessary to understand it since we often have to struggle with the professional, moral and aesthetic problems of authenticity in our everyday work. Looking back at the events of the past week, our professional programmes, the interested audience, lectures, professional debates and exchange of views and talks, I think that we can state objectively that this summer university was good. It started a stream of thoughts in all of us, which open up our eyes to new fields. It has deepened the feeling of professional vocation and commitment and underlined our responsibility we have to take concerning the maintenance and preservation of our built heritage. Finally I would like to thank all those for their work in shaping our programme and ensuring its smooth arrangement. I thank the organisers, the colleagues who were present at all the events and those who looked after us unnoticed in the background ensuring the success of the events, the English, German and French interpreting, the technical staff, good catering and so on, We are grateful to you, all. We must also express our gratitude to the speakers, I believe that I must thank ourselves for being here as we were - with friendship, love for our profession, an understanding and respect for each other and with the intention to learn about each other's work, professional opinion. I thank you for being together and as the president of the Summer University I thank you for the experience of your glittering eyes. This Summer University was a success.
