One result of this work of the Förderkreis Alte Kirchen is that now practically all churches in Hessen (even including some built after 1945) are protected by the official conservation law. Since about 1985 as far as is known no further churches have been demolished in Hessen. This is also partly a result of the greater public awareness of the importance of the architectural heritage. The law can now be carried out with a strong public lobby supporting it but also now with grater financial possiblities. The state conservation authorities have also been increasingly concerned about public relations organizing annual Conservation Days (Tag für Denkmalpflege) particularly intended as further education for local and church authorities. The proceeds of the state lottery are also used to finance conservation work. However some former synagogues have still been demolished. In recent years two publications by Theao Altaras
