Váczi Mária: Székelyvarsági játékvilág (A Szórakaténusz Játékmúzeum és Műhely gyűjteményei 1; Kecskemét, 2002)

On the second day of Christmas children chanted in the evening. They were four or five, mostly the same height but one smaller. The smaller child chanted the rimes, the others were singing. On Childermas Day (28th December) boys went to houses with a bunch of flowers chanting rimes. They were given money, ribbon or cakes. The survival of this rich game tradition is due to the geographical situation of Székelyvarság. The urban influence that destructs the traditional culture has not really reached the village yet. Children's world is dominated by the respect for work and activity as well as in their parents' and grandparents' time. When they play, the same active following of the pattern can be seen. The bigger rate of selfmade toys can be explained by the way these families think of consuming: only what you cannot make yourself is worth spending money on. The world of games is still very rich in Székelyvarság, they have something to save and guard. Any altering society has to find an answer to the problem: how can we keep our traditional values in this quickly changing world. István Györffy's thoughts have never been more timely than today on our way to the new era: „Europe does not care whether we adopted everything that European culture can offer, but it is interesting what we can add to European culture."
