VC — O I thank the Hungarian National Museum for their help, especially Dr. Ferenc Szikossy, deputy director, Beatrix Cs. Lengyel, Head of the Department of Historical Photographs and her colleagues, Judit Gaskó and Katalin Bognár, who worked a lot on selecting the right pictures. Our work was first of all motivated by the favourable reception of our first such attempt, namely publishing a volume on the pictures of nature in the art of Jenő Cholnoky. We could start working with the support of the Ministry

7 of Environment Protection and Water Management. Without their KAC project this volume could not have been published. I very much respect the support of László Haraszthy, Deputy State Secretary, President of the National Office of Nature Protection, and his predecessor, Dr. János Tardy, Vice Chairman of the European Centre of Nature Protection. The colleagues at the Hungarian Geographical Museum shared the task, joy and responsibility of collecting, editing and preparing the manuscripts and pictures for publication.
