The tachinid flies fauna of the Bakony region (Diptera: Tachinidae)

THE TACHINID FLIES FAUNA OF THE BAKONY REGION (DIPTERA: TACHINIDAE) The Bakony region was not significantly researhed in regard to the dipterafauna before. Still, there were some partial collections in the area. Most of the collected data was however lost from the Hungarian Natural History Museum Department of Zoology during the revolution of 1956. The first substansive work in the mountains were done by Ferenc Mihályi and his preparator Gizella Zsirkó, who worked in the mountains multiple times after 1956 and collected notable quantity of twowingers, including lots of Tachnid Flies. The author of this work also started his work in the mountaints around that time. However, relatively ordery, and plan-like collection only started within the framework of the project entitled „The natural landscape of the Bakony" organized by the Bakony Museum of Veszprém in 1962. This project started the intense research of the twowinger fauna of the mountain that resulted in close to 10 thousand samples of (Tachinidae) flies which are kept at the Bakony Natural Science Museum. The collection which represents only the Bakony region is second only to the collection in the Hungarian Natural History Museum Department of Zoology regarding the small domestic fauna of (Tachinidae) flies. The research of Hungarian Tachinid flies can be called better than average. The distribution of 431 species can be confirmed from the country's area. In regard to the (Tachinidae) flies, the Bakony region is better researched than other regions, so far 361 species occured here which is 83,7% of the domestic fauna. Out of the species from the Bakony region these are new to the Hungarian fauna: Blondelia piniariae (Hartig, 1838), Dexia vacua (Fallén, 1816), Halidaya aurea Egger, 1856, Phebellia glirina (Rondani, 1859), Phryxe erythrostoma (Hartig, 1838). In the work the author schematically rewiews the history of the research of the (Tachinidae) flies in the mountain, briefly describes their parazitoid lifestyle and because of that, their importance to nature. The author mentions the qualitative and quantitative structures of the fauna. On UTM grid maps, localities of several species are given and the phenological features of the individual species are depicted by diagrams. The longest part in the work is faunistical chapter. This chapter reviews the distribution of the species in the palearctical, the domestic and Bakony region including the small regions. Also in this chapter, their banter to the habitat, their phenology and detailed habitat data of the species can be found. The work is finished with the usual bibliography, the English summary and the index. The volume is made more expressive by the original snapshots of the living (Tachinidae) flies from the author. 181
