Polistes sulcifer (Zimmermann, 1930) (Fig. 16.) The most common social-parasite species in Hungary. However from Hungary only few data are available, mainly between 10-700 m elevation, from the mountain ranges of the country. It is most numerous between 200-500 m. It agrees with the remarks of JÓZAN (2006), as it occurs on higher altitudes, in wet forest habitats of the northern slopes of hilly areas. Prefers the undergrowth or edge plant association of the wet areas, hygrophil. The visited plant associations and plant species, as marked on labels: QuercetoCotinetum, Eryngium vulgare, Eryngium campestre, Salvia verticillata, Melampyrum nemorosum, Stachys recta. From Hungary only very few data are available, primarily from hilly parts of the Északi-középhegység (180-350 m). Parasitic social wasp, the hosts are P. dominulus and P. nimpha. (MÓCZÁR 1995).
