RÉPÁSI VIKTÓRIA – HAVAS ENIKŐ – DVOŘÁK LIBOR: Annotated checklist and distribution of social wasps (Hymenoptera, Vespidae: Vespinae, Polistinae) in Hungary

Borsod-Abaúj Zemplén county: Zemplén, Pin-kúti völgy: 10. VIII. 1957. Sné (lm). Heves county: Mátraszentimre (Galyatető): 23. VII. 1959. KE. (lfm). Dolichovespula adulterina (du Buysson, 1905) (Fig. 6.) Rare, primarily mountain species, the few hungarian data are mostly from about 7001000 m elevation, from the similar regions as D. omissa. According to DVORAK (2006), occurs on high altitudes, it is a boreoalpine character element. Broad-sense, borealmontane species (CETKOVIC 2002). Distribution and requirements are similar to the host species (D. saxonica, D. norwegica) (DVORAK & ROBERTS 2006). Vespula austriaca (Panzer, 1799) (Fig. 6.) Rare species, few data are available from Hungary, all are above 350 m from the similar hilly or mountainous regions as D. omissa. It has the same habitat requirements as its host, V. rufa (DVORAK & ROBERTS, 2006). Broad-sense, boreal-montane species (CETKOVIC 2002). Vespula vulgaris (Linnaeus, 1758) (Fig. 7.) Figure 7.: The distribution of V vulgaris in Hungary Widely distributed common species in the whole country. Prefers wet areas, occurs in 0-900 m altitude. Most of the data from Hungary are originated at about 80-400 m elevation, above this elevation become a bit more rare. Our findings are closely related to DVORAK & ROBERTS (2006) and DVORAK (2007) as it is ubiquitous, little rarer than V germanica in open habitats, but one of the most common species in forested areas. In the Czech Republic inhabits also secondary spruce forests. Oligoeurytherm. Broad altitudinal scope species (CETKOVIC 2002). The visited plant associations and plant species, as marked on labels: CirsioFestucetum pratensis, Phyllitidi-Aceretum, Fagetum, Seslerio-Fagetum, Waldsteinio-spiraetum mediae, Quercetum petraeae-Carpinetum, Quercetum petraeae-cerris, GalatelloQuercetum roboris. Pseucedano-Galatelletum. Junipero-Populetum albae, loess grassland, marsh meadow, weedplant associations, ruderalies, gardens, raspberry plantation, Fraxinus sp. Tilia sp. Cirsium arvense, Salix cinerea, Angelica silvestris. Based on our data it can be trapped with light traps, Malaise-traps, soil traps, traps baited among others with syrup or wine.
