RÉPÁSI VIKTÓRIA – HAVAS ENIKŐ – DVOŘÁK LIBOR: Annotated checklist and distribution of social wasps (Hymenoptera, Vespidae: Vespinae, Polistinae) in Hungary

Other signs: fm= female, w= worker, m= male The english meaning of the most important hungarian geographical expressions. Völgy = valley, erdő= forest, hegy= mountain, rét= meadow, bánya = mine, tó= lake, legelő = pasture, puszta = desert, fennsík = plateau, láp= swamp. Newly published distributional data of Vespidae species in Hungary Vespa crabro (Linnaeus, 1758) (Fig. 1.) Widely distributed species all over the country. Its colour form, germana had been synonymized by Bequaert-, (1931) and has not separate distributional area from the main form based on the hungarian faunistical data. Most of the data from Hungary are originated at about 90-300 m elevation, and data above 500 m are rare. However CETKOVIC (2002) mentions it as a lowland subalpine species. In the Czech Republic it inhabits predominantly floodplain and xerophilous broadleaf forests in lower altitudes and is closely associated with parks and orchards at medium and higher altitudes (DVORAK & ROBERTS 2006, DVORAK 2007). It prefers floodplain forests, oak forests (MÓCZÁR 1983), vegetation of the margins with weed species (JÓZAN 1995a, 1998, 2006). The visited plant associations and plant species, as marked on labels: Cirsio-Festucetum pratense, Fraxino-Ulmetum, Quercetum petraea-cerris, Peucedano-Galatelletum, GalatelloQuercetum roboris, Acereto-Fraxinetum, hardwood woodland, loess grassland, sandy grassland, sunny loam-wall, vineyard, Carpinus betulus, Acer campestre, Angelica silvestris, Lythrum salicaria, Cirsium arvense, Echium vulgare, Eryngium sp. Salix sp. Umbelliferae sp. Based on our data it can be trapped with Malaise-traps and with other traps, baited with syrup, wine and banana, or other fermented fruits (f.e. apple). It also flies into light traps (MÓCZÁR 1983^ Budapest: Csúcs-hegy: 22. VI. 1971. SzG (lw), Hárshegy: 05. X. 1941. (2m), Hűvösvölgy: V 1935. VS, 03. VTII. 1950. MM, 10. X. 1953. PA, VII-VIII. 2008.
