BARTA ZOLTÁN: Újabb adatok a zirci arborétum madárvilágának ismeretéhez
Summary Out of the 345 bird species found in Hungary, there have been reports on 71 species in the territory of the Zirc Arboretum. These include brooding species being constantly present (ex.: Parus major) as well as species which can be observed when flying across (ex.: Anser fabalis). Stemming from the specific nature of the arboretum, many of the bird species characteristic only of forest fauna in Hungary have been found in great numbers (ex.: Certhia spp., Turdus philomelos, etc.), in addition to the species characteristic only of inhabited territories (ex.: Passer domesticus, Streptopelia decaocto). Since BANKOVICS's research (1973), negative environmental effects (increasing urbanisation) have become stronger in the surroundings of the arboretum. Besides, heavy storms of the past years have also decimated the park's tree stock. All these factors have a negative effect on the species requiring „forest-like" environment (ex.: Columba oenas). Out of the 71 species ever found Bankovics also observed 62. The number of the species observed by myself as new ones is 9, and 16 is the number of the species the presence of which has no longer been proved by my observations. The following new species have been observed: Ciconia ciconia, Accipiter gentilis, Accipiter nisus, Cuculus canorus, Apus apus, Locustella fluviatilis, Phylloscopus trochilus, Loxia curvirostra, Fringilla montifringilla. Out of these only the Cuculus canorus can be taken into consideration as a brooding species. During migration, according to my observations in Zirc and its surroundings, the presence of only the Phylloscopus trochilus can be considered to be regular. The appearance of the Loxia curvirostra and the Fringilla montifringilla, both belonging to visiting species of northern origin, depends partly on their invasion but it is also connected with the seed crop of the arboretum's pine-trees (Loxia). Birds of prey cross the territory with more or less regularity while preying (Accipiter gentilis, Accipiter nisus), whereas the Ciconia ciconia, the Apus apus and the Locustella fluviatilis only cross it during their occasional appearance (when they are acquiring nourishment or in migration). According to my observations in Zirc and its environs, the number of the species found on the territory of the Zirc Arboretum will certainly grow in the future.
