GÁSPÁR, FERENC: THE EVENTS IN THE HISTORY OF THE GENERAL HOSPITAL OF KAPOSVÁR BETWEEN 1922 AND 1930 (THE DOCUMENTS OF A DECISION PROCESS IN THE BODOSI MIHÁLY HOSPITAL HISTORICAL COLLECTION OF KAPOSI MÓR TEACHING HOSPITAL) A phase of dynamic progress in the history of the Kaposvár general hospital was started by the sharp debate breaking out about the necessity of establishing an independent maternity ward. In the 1920-s it was the first time in the life of the hospital for the phenomenon, that one of the debating parties openly used the direct intervention of a political party in the enforcement of their interests, to be experienced. It is a curious fact, that the expansion was realized by overcoming the resistance of the respected director head-physician, who had gained great distinction in the previous expansions, and thus it can be considered the starting point of a significant change in attitude. The study presents the process using the material of the Bodosi Mihály Hospital Historical Collection of Kaposi Mór Teaching Hospital, exploring in detail the events and documents of a story unknown so far. SZŐLLŐSY, FERENC:REAR-VIEW MIRROR (PUBLISHER: CSÓTI, CSABA) The journalist, Ferenc Szó'llősy, was born in Várda, Somogy County, in 1897. In 1920 he moved to Kaposvár, and between 1929 and 1944 he edited Somogyi Újság, a government supporting „Christian political daily paper” of Somogy County and Kaposvár. Between 1926 and 1944 he was head of the local office of MTI (Hungarian News Service) in Kaposvár, and in this capacity he was considered the official correspondent of Somogy County at a national level. In 1945 the People’s Tribunal of Kaposvár sentenced him to imprisonment for his newspaper editing activity during World War II. Later he became an accountant in Balatonszemes, where he died in 1977. In his recollections published in our volume he remembers his contemporaries, the characters of Somogy County public life between the two World Wars in an anecdotic style. Although his recollections are exceedingly subjective in several places, his work is a very amusing reading and a storehouse of historical data for both those who are interested in the local society of the era and also for those who wish to gather information about the attitude of a provincial Christian-conservative intellectual, influential in his time. The recollections of Ferenc Szőlló'sy are complemented with an introductory study and explanatory footnotes. DOMOKOS S ZA LAI, ZSUZSANNA: POSTCARDS AND PICTURE POSTCARDS IN THE SOMOGY COUNTY ARCHIVES (FOURTH PUBLICATION) In the Annuals of 2006 and 2007 the author already published the World War I postcards from the postcard and picture postcard collection, which is in the care of the Somogy County Archives. The present source publication presents the correspondence of two brothers, Géza Szarka and József Szarka, their cards written to their parents, József Szarka Sr. and Julianna Balázs living in Lapapuszta during World War II. At the time Lapapuszta belonged to Szentgáloskér, Somogy County. The parents worked as farm-labourers on the Lapa estate. The postcards sent from the military camp reflect the worries, fears and hopes of the brothers serving in the front-line. Quoting Géza Szarka- „all our happiness is the letter”. KISS, NORBERT PÉTER: THE SOMOGY COUNTY DOCUMENTS DESTROYED DURING THE 1956 REVOLUTION (SOURCE PUBLICATION) The study presents a segment of a longer research process: it publishes two sources about some Somogy County archives destroyed during the 1956 revolution. In 1956 in several villages the wrath 298
