ABSTRACTS Anita Vonyó: Meteorological Events and Natural Disasters in Somogy County between 1866 andl881, according to Reports in Somogy Weekly Today the changeability and unpredictability of nature surrounding us is a common topic of conversation. Several scientific treatises have already been prepared about to what extent the different weather or other extremities are the consequences of man's activity that changes nature. In the present study, on the basis of the reports in Somogy weekly between 1866 and 1881 we cast light on the fact that the extraordinary meteorological phenomena experienced in the past years are not unique. Great weather and water-level extremities, earthquakes and solar eclipses occured in the period mentioned as well. Our environment shows permanent changeability besides having constant characteristics due to our geographical location and circumstances. Man has always paid a special attention to things the exact cause of which he does not know. In the 21st century when we have found the answers to most of the „why"-s of nature's changes - we still pay attention to such events with great interest. Jenő Leidecker s manuscript entitled The History of Village and District Notaries in Somogy County has been digitalized, corrected and supplemented by Balázs Récsei. By publishing the work, we wished to facilitate the research of Somogy County local historians. The paper has been an indispensable source for those dealing with settlement history for decades now. The data collection traces the distribution of the county's settlements into notary and district notary regions, the namechanges of the settlements, their unions, separations, from the enactment of the first village law in 1871 to the introduction of the council system in 1950. In the introductory part Leidecker summarizes the history of the public administration of the previous years. While checking the manuscript, Balázs Récsei supplemented it with the data found in the minutes of Somogy County Municipal Committee between 1871 and 1950, data in the available issues of the Megyei Híradó (County Courier) 1882-1899, Somogyvármegye Hivatalos Lapja (Somogy County Official Paper) 1900-1920, Somogyvármegye Hivatalos Lapja (Somogy County Official Paper) 1921-1948, and in the work of Mihály Gyalai entitled Magyar igazgatástörténeti helységnévtár (Hungarian Administration Historical Collection of Settlement Names). Csaba Csóti: The Social Historical Messages of the Life Insurance Cases in Kaposvár (1920-1938) In his study the author illustrates the self-provision ability of the society of Kaposvár between the two World Wars, through the analysis of the contemporary life insurance cases. In his interpretation life insurance appears as an investment and as a clearance of the descendants from the inheritance tax. As such, it represents an element of the „middle-class ethos". For his analysis, he used the documents of the Kaposvár Orphans' Court, a group of sources neglected so far in Kaposvár local historical research. He came to the conclusion that although the insurances can help to form a picture of the way of thinking of the one-time middle classes, their real value and casefrequency shows that the image of tbe bourgeois able to manage and provide for himself on his own remained rather an idealized image in the examined era (as well), only few had the possibility for its practical realization. István Lagzi: The Last Phase of the Evacuation of the Poles from Hungary. The Ewa-B Actions from the Autumn of 1940 to the Autumn of 1941. In September 1939 tens of thousands of Poles escaped from the German, then the Soviet army attacking Poland to the Baltic states, Rumania and in the largest number, about 60 000 people to Hungary. In France the Polish emigre government lead by General Sikorski organized the first Polish \ units in October 1939. Helping Polish soldiers in Hungarian territory and civilians of military age to flee from the country or to evacuate was carried out through Jugoslavia and Italy. Evacuation to
