József Sipos: István Nagyatádi Szabó and the Elections in Somogy in 1922 This richly documented study analyses in detail the events in Somogy of the elections in 1922. This election played a very important part in the formation of the Horthy-Bethlen system. István Nagyatádi Szabó, who was born in Somogy and who was the founder of the Small-holder's Party which scored a great success on the previous elections, together with his party played an important role in making possible the foundation of the United Party with the leadership of prime minister, Count István Bethlen. That the governing party could win at the elections was due to the governing of strong hand based on a strong social basis. István Nagyatádi Szabó payed special attention to the election in Somogy, he personally took part in the events of the campaign. He was candidate in two election districts. The study analyses thoroughly the agitation of election of the governing party and that of the small-holders' in Somogy, and also shows István Nagyatádi Szabó's part in the election. The author tries to prove his hypothesis that the prime factor in the establishment and the work of the new governing party was not the effort and the basis of the traditional upper-class led by Bethlen but rather that of the Smallholder's Party, at least in those years. Anita Vonyó: „They were all heroes, all men and loyal patriots". The circumstances in which the war memorial of World War I. in Mernye was set up. The war conlicts in history always gave more heroes to society than the time of piece. The names of those died in battles were deeply set in the collective consciousness, this way they were considered heroes. It so happened in Mernye too, where the events of World War II. made the inhabitants set up a memorial to the memory of their soldiers died in World War I. From the study it emerges that an exalted plan is not enough to keep the remembrance of the heroes over generations with the help of an erected monument. The leadership of Mernye had to overcome many obstacles till finally they could unveil the memorial on the 20th of August 1943. The memorial still sounds the praises of those laid down their lives for their country at the front lines in World War I.
