RESUME Iván Borsa, The Archives of Mérey Family (1265-1526): This document will be published in two parts. The oldest documents of the Mérey archives, kept in the National Archives, are described in this issue. Almost all of them refer to their family’s lands in Mére, a village in the County of Somogy where their name comes from and to lands connected with them. The extracts of out of 180 documents surviving are published here. The main reason for this search is that relatively few documents and extracts have been published so far. The second part of this publication of sources is coming out in our Yearbook for 1993. All the documents published here originate from the centuries before the defeat at Mohács. István Szíjártó, Relations and Milestones. Spatial Social Relations of the Gentry in the County of Somogy During the 18th Century: The study makes an attempt at a better understanding of the social history of the Hungarian gentry in the 18th century. The search covers the gentry families living in the County of Somogy between 1715 and 1815. Economic and legal status of these families have been compared on the basis of: 1 significant lists kept at the Archives showing their income, 2 the conditions of their military service, and their posts in local and national administration that gave the basis of their power. Credit conditions and differences in their holding landing properties have also been described. Maps illustrating the relations and properties of nine families are also included. Viktor Dóber, Franciscan Family-Chaplains in Somogysárd and in the County of Somogy Between 1740 and 1884: The study documents the activities of the Franciscan Order in the County of Somogy during the Middle Ages and the Turkish rule, as well as the relations between landowners and Franciscan friars. It also describes the growth of the place of pilgrimage in Segesd. The author lists the names of priests and chaplains and explains their activities including their relationships with the people living in the surrounding area. He also describes the changes in Franciscan monasteries during the 18th century as well as the virtues and mediocrity of friars. The study is rich in references to the history of the Church. Pál Nagy, Seals of Market-Towns and Villages in the County of Somogy Between 1768 and 1856: From 1992 on the author will publish the complete data and patterns of the market towns and villages in the County of Somogy between 1768 and 1856. The photos of the seals and detailed sigillographic analysis will be published later as part of a comprehensive study. This work is an attempt to create the methodology of searching this uncultivated area. The first part consists of the descriptions and drawings of 59 seals from 20 towns and villages. The introduction summarizes the sources, the literature quoted and the technical terminology. A chart listing the name-forms and the administrative, legal and territorial changes of the towns and villages is also included. This study takes a step towards a new system in the division of districts in the 18th century. 348
