Dokumentumok

Dokumentumok granting them the full opportunity to preserve and develop their own culture, use their language, and profess and practice their religion. Beyond the issue of the MFN status, our government ought to heed the demand of close to 2 million Hungarian-Americans, a loyal, patriotic and productive part of our nation, and use every international fori as well as bilateral contacts to protest the actual and planned destruction of Rumania’s minority cultures and demand the full restoration of the institutions they were deprived of. Mr. President, in Tuesday’s Washington Post an excellent column was published by Jim Hoagland148 with the title „Romania: A modern horror story”.1491 ask unanimous consent that this article be reproduced in the record at the conclusion of my remarks. Also, a few weeks ago I received a letter from Hungary, written by leaders of the Democratic Forum, an independent organization of non-conformist intellectuals.150 One of the leaders of the Forum is the outstanding writer, poet and essayist Sándor Csoori, a man I admire and regard as a friend. The letter is a plea for the sympathy and support of the international community in defense of human values in Rumania. It is accompanied by a lengthy factual survey and report on the situation of the Hungarian minority in Rumania. With regard to the report’s length, I ask unanimous consent that only the cover letter be printed in the record, I intend to forward a copy of the report itself to our State Department. Thank you, Mr. President. 148 Jim Hoagland (1940): amerikai újságíró. Kétszeres Pulitzer-díjas, a Washington Post munkatársa. 149 Jim Hoagland: Romania: A modern horror story.
