Budapest, 2003. szeptember 5. Köszönettel: Dr. Deme Péter 28 August 2003 Dear NEMO-member and colleague. The Netherlands will take over the chair of the European Union in the second half of 2004. In this period the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science will focus on the enhancement of the mobility of collections between European museums. The Ministry of Culture has asked the Netherlands Museums Association and NEMO to collect information on the present state of affairs with regard to this subject, in order to be able to identify the measures necessary to improve and facilitate the mobility of museum collections in Europe in the future. To help us with this investigation I ask you friendly to distribute the attached questionnaire (by e-mail or on paper) among the museums in your country and to ask the museums to return the completed questionnaire to your address before the T' of October. The completed questionnaires you collect can be sent to: Astrid Weij Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, De Hoftoren, Rijnstraat 50 Postbox 16375 2500 BJ Den Haag The Netherlands. Astrid Weij's email-address is a.weij@minocw.nl (telephone +31 (0)70 412 34 56). The Ministry will take care of the assembling of the information. A report will be presented at the NEMO-meeting in Berlin on 28/29 November 2003. Thank you very much for your help! Annemarie Vels Heijn, Director, Netherlands Museums Association Questionnaire on mobility of collections in Europe In the second half of 2004 the Netherlands will take over the chair of the European Union. During this chairmanship the Dutch government wants to focus on a number of subjects including some in the cultural field. One of these subjects is the mobility of collections. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science considers mobility of collections to be an important subject because, on the one hand, this gives greater visibility to the cultural heritage collection of Europe - while on the other hand it enables 'European cultural heritage' also to be shown in other European countries. The Netherlands Museums Association and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science have asked the members of NEMO (Network of European Museum Organisations) to collect information on the present state of affairs with regard to the mobility of collections within Europe. Mobility of collections is an instrument which contributes to well-balanced, controllable, coherent and visible collections. In this consultation of members the definition of mobility of collections is restricted to the mutual lending of (parts of) collections among European museums for the medium term (1-5 years).
